Welcome to my page

Welcome to my personal page — a central space to share my projects, volunteer work, and community involvement. My interests include amateur radio, Scouting, and outdoor leadership, supported by training in emergency preparedness and wilderness first aid. I’m committed to promoting safety, resilience, and lifelong learning through hands-on experience and community engagement. This site offers a glimpse into the activities and initiatives I’m involved in and serves as a place to connect with others who share similar interests.

Prepare for Today

For information and resources related to emergency preparedness, please visit Prepare for Today — a dedicated site focused on practical steps, training, and tools to help individuals and communities be ready for unexpected events. That site provides detailed guidance on preparedness planning, safety skills, and community resilience initiatives.

Amateur Radio - KCøRAM

Amateur radio has been a longtime passion of mine, combining communication, technology, and community service. I enjoy exploring the hobby through activities like Parks on the Air, Summits on the Air, and emergency communication support with local volunteers. My focus is on learning, experimenting, and connecting with operators across the world. You can learn more about my amateur radio background and recent activities on my QRZ.com profile.

Scouting America

Scouting has been a lifelong source of growth, leadership, and community for me. I am proud to be an Eagle Scout and a Wood Badge graduate, experiences that have shaped my approach to mentoring youth and building strong teams. Over the years, I’ve served in several leadership roles, including Cubmaster for my children’s Cub Scout pack and currently as Scoutmaster of Troop 50 in Des Moines, Iowa. Beyond the troop level, I serve on the Mid-Iowa Council Board of Directors as the Vice President of Program, helping support quality Scouting experiences across central Iowa. One of my most memorable Scouting experiences was completing a Philmont trek with my son, where we summited Mount Baldy together — a proud moment that captured the spirit of adventure and shared accomplishment that Scouting represents.

Emergency Management, EMS, and the fire Service

Public safety has been a central focus throughout my career. I began as a paramedic with a private ambulance service, an experience that built the foundation for my understanding of both emergency response and patient care. My time with the Johnston Fire Department, during its transition from an all-volunteer organization to a fully paid career service, gave me a deep appreciation for the dedication of both volunteer and professional emergency responders. Later, my work with the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management broadened that perspective, deepening my understanding of disasters and the complex ways they affect communities. Together, these experiences have shaped a lifelong commitment to preparedness, collaboration, and service to others.
